Cadmium, Blood Unit Converter

Cadmium is a toxic heavy metal that has no known beneficial role in the human body. Blood cadmium measures the amount of this metal circulating in your bloodstream.

Blood cadmium reflects recent or acute exposure (within the past 3-4 months), while urine cadmium better reflects cumulative body burden from long-term exposure.

Once absorbed, cadmium accumulates primarily in the kidneys and liver, where it can remain for decades due to its very long biological half-life of 10-30 years.

Cadmium enters the body through inhalation of contaminated air (cigarette smoke, industrial fumes) or ingestion of contaminated food and water. It is not produced by the body and has no physiological function.
