What is Immunoglobulin G?

Immunoglobulin G (IgG) is the most abundant antibody in your blood, accounting for approximately 70-80% of all circulating immunoglobulins.

IgG antibodies are produced by plasma cells (mature B lymphocytes) as part of your body's adaptive immune response. They recognize and bind to specific foreign substances such as bacteria, viruses, and toxins, marking them for destruction by other immune cells.

IgG is divided into four subclasses (IgG1, IgG2, IgG3, and IgG4), each with slightly different functions. IgG1 is the most abundant, making up about two-thirds of total IgG.

Where Does Immunoglobulin G Come From?

IgG is produced by plasma cells, which are mature B lymphocytes found primarily in the bone marrow, spleen, and lymph nodes. Production is stimulated when the immune system encounters a foreign antigen.
